This week’s guest bloggers are Tamara and Joan of 2 Ladies & a Chair.

Most children and adults can’t wait until Halloween. We all love that spooky, creepy, eerie feeling that only Halloween can bring us once a year. For 2 Ladies, the more imaginative and fantastic the Halloween decor, the better! We start decorating both our homes the first day of October, and we like to shop at HomeGoods for all our seasonal decor needs.

We like to simplify the process of decorating by choosing a color scheme that will unify all of the Halloween decor in the house.

The colors we predominantly use are black, white, silver and gold. Our orange pumpkins are a standout against this color backdrop. It is the best time of year to get out all our candles, too. Halloween is at its spookiest in candlelight.

Pumpkins! We love pumpkins and gourds for fall and Halloween decor. Piled high, painted, carved as jack-o-lanterns or simply stacked, pumpkins are always a big part of our scary and mysterious displays.

We love adding pumpkins in unexpected ways throughout the home — even the most ordinary vignette takes on a scary vibe when adding a few spiders or skulls!

Since the mantle is usually the focal point in the family room, we decorate it first. First, we tone down any existing artwork by covering it with newspaper, as if it were in a haunted house. That helps our Halloween decor to pop!

We use our basic go-to decorating essentials such as candlesticks, glass vases, books and apothecary jars, but somehow just by adding a few skulls and other traditional Halloween decor, these everyday mantles turn into creepy, frightening displays that are perfect for the season.

We love doing the unexpected with our Halloween decorating. Decorating an unexpected area in your home surprises everyone.

Most people would probably leave their family photo wall alone when decorating, but not us! This is just the spot to do the unexpected and have fun, too. Plus, the whole family can be involved in this. Using a photo booth app, the kids had a blast taking spooky pictures of themselves. The most horrifying photos were chosen to haunt the family photo gallery.

To neutralize the existing wall art, we covered the frames with newspapers, then simply taped the pictures on top. Add a few spider webs and a sinister haunted house scene is set!
